BRANCHING OUT INTO VINTAGE EVENING BAGS !!

Now that the Christmas Party Season is upon us, I have made the decisive leap into selling something other than vintage jewellery !!

Come and see my small but perfectly formed collection of vintage evening bags…

I have eleven of these beauties for sale, and most of them are in pretty much perfect condition. Gorgeous beading and sequin-work, simple elegant designs, and some famous British High st. brands – what more could you want?

All these bags date from the 1960s – early 1990s, and therefore are twenty years old or more.

MONSOON / ACCESSORIZE

This is a really attractive little rectangular evening bag embellished with a burgundy diamanté-studded bow across the front flap. From the early 1990s.

Here is a slightly cheaper option due to the fact that this was from a sample sale for Monsoon / Accessorize and therefore isn’t quite as good quality as the other items – it’s had some bumps and scratches in the leather handle too, but it’s still a gorgeous bag !!

Accessorize Gunmetal Sequinned Evening Bag – £20

Here’s a really fabulous little statement piece – a dark purple satin evening bag with intricate gunmetal grey, dark silver and clear diamanté all down the centre band !!

Of course, evening bags come in a variety of fabrics and finishes, and one of the most popular is velvet – rich and soft, this little bag comes in a gorgeous soft olivey-lime green velvet, all ruched and gathered to give it a lovely squashy texture !!

Monsoon isn’t the only company of course – here’s one of our perennial High St. favourites:-

MARKS & SPENCER

This little bag is in a beautiful rich teal-blue velvet, and features a big bow – how very 1980s !!

FENN WRIGHT MANSON

Here’s another famous brand – not so famous as M&S of course, but a highly respected name nonetheless, and a favourite among the rich ladies of Chelsea !!

This is a dark red grosgrain – an unusual fabric for an evening bag, but it definitely works.

The rest of my evening bags have no brand name inside so there’s no way of knowing who made them, sadly, but they’re all beautiful quality !!

UNBRANDED

How about this for a gorgeous item – covered all over with dark silver square sequins for a really interesting textural surface, with gunmetal clasp and chain.

Sequinned Evening Bag – £25

p1060612p1060613

Here’s another sequinned beauty – this time from the 1980s and what a frilly wonder it is – makes me think of sexy black lingerie !!

Black Sequinned Evening Bag – £25

p1060607p1060608

Here’s one from much earlier – I think this is probably a 1960s bag, beaded all over the front with black seed beads in a geometric circles pattern – the back is beaded too but in plain lines. This bag is heavier than all the others because of the sheer weight of the beading. It also comes with its own little mirror tucked in the inside pocket – how fab is that !!

Black Beaded 1960s Evening Bag – £25

p1060596p1060597

This little bag is also heavily beaded all over the front and the back, with an identical design of geometric triangles, paisley motifs and wavy lines – it’s a very intricate design actually, and absolutely gorgeous !!

Gunmetal Grey Beaded Evening Bag – £25

p1060581p1060580

Last but not least, here is a little black velvet evening bag with a black cord strap and a bugle-beaded fringe – the strap needs some attention on this but it’s easily fixed !! It’s a little cheaper as a result.

Black Velvet Evening Bag – £18

There you go then – my new venture !! I wanted to add these for some time as I feel that beaded and sequinned evening bags sit well with the vintage jewellery in my Etsy shop. I didn’t want to stray too far away from the original premise of it being a vintage jewellery shop, but  accessories are a good addition, I feel.
